5 S

I presume that all of us want to improve ourselves. If we improve who will benefit?

We, ourselves;
Our families;
Our neighbors.;
Our place of work;
Our society;
Our country;
Our world.

Japan, a tiny nation in the world, is a giant in many areas of global enterprise. Institutions like SONY, TOSHIBA, SANYO, HITACHI, TOYOTA etc. are household names. They have given the world many management tools to run organizations efficiently and profitably. One such invaluable tool is 5 S which can be use in institutions and individual households. What is 5S?

JAPANESE ---ENGLISH

SEIRI --- SORT
SEITON --- SET IN ORDER
SEISO ---SHINE
SEIKETSU--- STANDARDISE
SHITSUKE ---SUSTAIN

SORT: Go through various things in the house and assess what is useful and what is not useful. If something is not used for quite sometime and if you think it will not be used in the future just dispose it. Don’t accumulate unwanted things. Thus, you will avoid clutter and save valuable space.

SET IN ORDER: A place for everything and everything in its place. Books should be kept in book shelves and not any where else. Keys should be kept in key holder, label items used in the kitchen etc. If this is done everyone in the house will know where everything is kept and will not waste time searching for things.

SHINE: Time and effort should be spent to keep the place and things clean and shining. Every one in the house without any exception whatsoever should share the responsibility for this. A time should be set apart for this purpose so that all can do it to gether.

STANDARDISE: How to clean the place, how to shine the things, when it is to be done, what cleaning material to be used, who should do what etc. should be laid down and clearly understood by everyone in the house.

SUSTAIN: Once a system is set in motion and found successful , it should not be given up on any pretext or excuse or under any circumstances. If a better method is found later on the old system should be scrapped and the new system introduced.

TRY 5S IN YOUR HOUSE. I GUARANTEE UNITY, HAPPINESS AND PEACE OF MIND IN THE HOUSE..
