TORRENTIAL RAIN LASHING KOCHI

Kochi is reeling under horrible rains. Giant clouds are having a stranglehold on the city and the torrential down pour is flooding this place. Road and streets are getting flooded due to inadequate drainage, pot holes on the roads are increasing, driving has become difficult. Low lying areas are inundated, there is frequent failure of electricity, people living in some coastal areas are being evacuated, trees are being uprooted and blocking the roads, there is landslide in hilly areas and houses have been damaged. Some people have already lost their lives.

On the other hand many parts of India are facing drought situation. Rain has played truant and agricultural out put will be badly affected. Prices of essential commodities will go up due to shortage. I will not be surprised some farmers will commit suicide because they are not able to pay up the loan taken form money sharks.

Sometimes I wish these rains will go to places where they are needed.

I am sitting comfortably in my house, having cups and cups of hot tea, reading your magnificent posts and writing comments whereas more than 3 lakh people have been displaced in Assam due to flooding of the river Bramaputra.

Hello Joseph, sorry the weather is so horrible for you, especially when other parts need the rain so badly.
Take care and keep up with the hot cups of tea.

Oh the situation seems to be horrible. Here we don't have so much of rain.Yeah,I agree with u,its better to have more or less uniform rain in many areas than having such torrential rain in very limited number of places...But why doesn't that never happen? Ohhhhh I heard that its dangerous to walk in inundated roads especially in cities, because the Municipal corporation people wud keep those drainage holes(don't know what they call it)open and we people may not know the presence of such holes at a particular point until we land on it...And I have heard many cases of deaths in such cases, even some of the deadbodies have gone missing.....Pls Take care of urself.....
Regards.

The same thing is happening here on our coast. Wilmington (the coastal city) has had flooding rains, but my yard just 13 miles inland, gets a nice gentle shower about once a week. Alas, sometimes Mother Nature reverses that scenario. Chin up, now.

Hello Joseph! I am so sorry to learn of all of the damaging rain and other weather. You do give us some breathtaking photos here though. I am very happy to know that you are ok and have not been affected as some other areas have. Stay safe in your home with your tea!

God bless you dear Joseph!

Hi Joseph

Sorry to hear about what is happening in Kochi. Really devastating. The great diversity of our great country also includes such cruel diversity in climate. We must count ourself extremely fortunate to be able to live in protected environments unaffected by the ravages of nature.
Look forward to sharing a few cups of coffee with you one day in the near future !

Hi Joseph!

I'm sorry that Kochi is facing such a difficult circumstance right now, especially in light of the fact that so many other places in India need the rain so much more. It's so frustrating how that happens sometimes. I'm glad your warm and safe and dry and that you have a computer available to you in the midst of the downpours so we can all stay in touch. You're in my thoughts and prayers.

With much affection and warmest hopes for brighter days ahead,
Mel :)

I could visualise the scene out there thruogh your well expressed post and ofcourse through the telling pictures.
We played games with nature...now nature is showing its wrath.

Hi Joseph, I hope all is well with you! I do hope you stay safe from any flooding. The weather does what it wants doesn't it?

It's a topsy turvy world now. Of couse here in the UK we cannot possibly know the suffering that India experiences. We have flood areas which prevents people living in their homes but generally speaking we're luckier than most. My prayers are with everyone in your country.... I only wish I knew the answers.

Is not nature mirroring the imbalances imposed upon it! Nature seeks its balance to ultimately survive. It seems that there is always immanent light behind the storm, a knowing, beyond the darkness that overwhelms and brings perceived loss.

In enduring faith and blessings to all,

small blessings that you bring this back to at the end. simple things we overlook worrying about the weather. while others drown in sorrow. maybe it will move over an give some grace to the farmers...we can hope.

Glad you are home and safe. I'd been reading about the drought in India but did not know about the torrential rains in other areas of India as well. What a horrid absence of purpose when one area is being destroyed by the thing that could help another area so much.

I trust you are well. hmmmmmmm.... and 'down came the rain in torrents' this is the chorus to a song I use to sing in sunday school when i was a child. It was about Noah and the Ark. I am thinking it sounds like you can you an Ark about now with all the water. Scary situation, water can be very incideous, it's legs never tire. Ying & Yang (Rain/Drought), it is the way of things, one does not exist without the other, light/dark, happy/sad, angel/devil, those unafffected/those affected, two sides of the same coin.

All that being said I hope that no one lose their lives, it can be a very scary experience having lived in the Islands all my life I understand hurricanes/floods etc.

Great entry, take care my friend and do come by...

oh! did you have an opportunity to see the photos I took of the Scarborough Bluffs? It is 14km of the Lake Ontario Shore. Have a look and tell me what you think. It is at the bottom of the blog, just scroll down.

Have a blessed week eh....smooches

I am sorry to hear that some people have lost their lives, due to these storms. I know we have street wash outs when it down pours, but I am glad you and your family are safe. Hope your weekend is going great and thank you for coming by.

You and your country and in my prayers, my friend. What a terrible weather situation. Last winter when we had such horrible weather in Spokane, Washington, USA, we felt just overwhelmed by the sheer power of nature and the difficulty of getting around in deep, deep snow. Our situation wasn't as difficult as the situation you all are in in your region.

God's peace, my friend. And may the storms pass you all by...

Too, too much rain and the damage makes lives miserable. But that is life and those who do not have to face the elements are lucky.

The farmers can always use a little of that stuff. Sometimes it seems like we get too much. That's just way it is. Be safe and have a great week.

I agree with you the rains are causing havoc in some parts of the country. We are partly responsible for it by properly not maintaining the drainage. We clog them by throwing anything and everything. I also wish they would have distributed properly.

Once again great photos. Yes – even I was thinking hope it had rained where it was needed though of course Kerala ‘s electricity /power cut depends on rains. Some states are longing for rain. But again its natures play. I wish all are safe and sound.

Hi Rema:)

I agree with you. We need rain very badly for our electricity generation and also for our crops.

In fact we used to get much more rain than this. Some how we are getting less and less rain over the years.

Have a nice day Rema:)
