GOD’S MARVELS III –THE SEA AND THE OCEAN

Today, 8th JUNE is celebrated as WORLD OCEANS DAY. I came to know this when I visited Crazy Cris at Here and There and Everywhere. I am also participating in the Oceanic Blog-A-Thon.

We all know Ocean is a marvelous gift of God to mankind. It does several things for the benefit of human beings. But man in his greed for wealth is slowly destroying the seas and the oceans by letting out industrial waste into the sea, indiscriminate hunting of marine food, oil spillage from tankers, throwing plastic waste on the beaches etc. If we don’t understand the seriousness of our actions we will have to face oceans wrath one day.

This post is a reminder to us of the various benefits and advantages we derive from the seas and oceans. Please click on the photos for a larger and lovely view.

Deep blue ocean— mysterious, bewitching, spellbinding and awe inspiring.

Cruise ships bring hundreds of tourists to our shores.

Fishermen go to the deep sea in their colorful motor boats to get our daily quota of fish.

We watch breathtaking sunsets over the ocean and seas.

We watch rolling waves with roaring sound with great admiration

Cargo ships bring various products to our place from other countries.

People stand on the shores to enjoy the breeze and to feel the sea water under their feet.

Chinese fishing nets at the mouth of the sea entrance enable many fishermen to earn their living without going out into the sea.

Oil tankers bring crude oil to our city from oil producing countries.

People sit on the rocks dumped in the sea to prevent soil erosion and chatting away in the evening.

Dear friends take care of the sea and the ocean and they will take care of us.

Sir
I chanced on your blog accidentally while reading comments on Raji's blog.I read the one about the little girl with a hat - so sad that she has to sell hats to earn a living.I am sure fortune will smile on her sooner or later. The photographs of the Ocean are awe inspiring - and man pollutes our fantastic environment in his greed to amass material wealth.

There's something very special about water. Oceans, seas, rivers, and even a glass of pure water.

Greetings, Joseph! The pictures are lovely! :) I especially love the first one... Something about the sparkling water catches my eye.

I'm glad you pointed out about today being World Oceans Day. I never would have known, otherwise. You're so right---the Ocean is a magnificent gift, and I don't think science has even scratched the surface regarding the value of the ocean and how it contributes to life on this planet. God's design is magnificent and unparalleled, and whenever I see the ocean in person, film or photography, I can't help but be overwhelmed with awe and thanksgiving.

God bless you and all who are dear to you, Joseph!

The roar of the surf as I walk our Atlantc beaches does something magic to clear my mind and help me focus on what I must do. I am sure it will outlive me, but future generations?????

I did not know that today is Ocean Day.

God 's amazing creation when He separated the waters from the land.
I love the sea and have enjoyed visiting some beaches in South India.

We are getting Shalom TV on our cable network. It seems to be a Catholic channel. Do you get it?

Great post, Joseph! I especially like the colourful boat (somehow similar to portuguese fishing boats used in the north of the country) and the fantastic fishing nets system!

Oh wow, Joseph, you have inspired my memory of a song I love so very much! Carman, the author, of the song 'There is a God', speaks about the ocean and how creation just proves that 'There is a God!'
I hope you don't mind the lengthy post of lyrics... the segment of the song I am recalling goes:

"The Scripture says the heavens decalre the glory of God and the skies proclaim the work of His hands. If we allow our minds to drink in all the truth that surrounds the truth that just surrounds us, creation itself with help us understand.

Did you know the moon controls the tides, it's the maid that cleans the oceans. Even the waves don't crash the shores in vain. The tides drag impurities from the depths of the sea, it's nature's constant recycling chain."

If you can you tube the song, I am sure it will 'blow you away'. God is so profound!

Wish you a lovely week,

Danielle :-)

Hello dear Joseph!

I love this post. I had no idea there was such a thing as 'World Ocean's Day'...what a wonderful thing. I find it horribly sad to hear of the horrible damage we are doing to our bodies of water and marine life through pollution and general disregard for the beauty of it all.

I love the colorful fishing boats and the fishing nets are so interesting too. I've never seen anything quite like them before.

I love the ocean and all bodies of water but I think the overwhelming emotion I feel when thinking of, and looking at the ocean is loneliness. Perhaps that's a bit strange, but I just think it is so vast that it must get lonely. It would see a boat or ship here and there, but there is just so much emptiness.

I loved this post Joseph and as always look forward to seeing all of your pictures. Just lovely.

Have a blessed day in our Lord!

Hi Joseph,
When I was a boy I was raised near the ocean, and there I played and swam for countless hours. The waters were clear, clean and to find debri washed up on shore was unusual. Today, when I visit the sea the shores always have debri, plastic, washing up. The water burns my eyes more, which could be age but I'm not so sure. Man is so short sighted and for greed will bite the hand that feeds it. Lord! have mercy on us and may the generations under us have more respect for our world than our generation did.
Great post Joseph,
Fred

Hello to all my lovely friends:)

I am thrilled and excited to read your interesting and thought provoking comments. I consider your encouragement and motivation a great blessing.

Unfortunately, my lap top mother board is damaged and I have given it for repairs. It will take a few day to get it fixed.

In the meanwhile my youngest son David has been kind enough to allow me to use his desk top when it is free. But then as you know I will be slowed down in catching up with your posts.

I hope you will be kind enough to understand my problem and bear with me for a few days.

I wish each one of you all success and happiness.

Your friend,
Joseph

I grew up in a small fishing town on the Puget Sound in Washington State, and while I never worked on a fishing boat, I did work in fish canneries for two summers while I was going to college. There is something about fishing and being on the water that isn't quite like anything else.

When I was working in the canery, I worked on the dock for a few weeks, and I used to love watching the boats come in to off-load their fish. I can't really describe why...

What a lovely blog you have! And I too worry about the health of our beautiful oceans. *sigh* It is such a shame that so many people do not see the value of caring for the world God put us in.

The ocean is so beautiful and mysterious... just like its creator. Perhaps this is why it is so alluring.

" He makes the depths churn like a boiling caldron and stirs up the sea like a pot of ointment. Behind him he leaves a glistening wake; one would think the deep had white hair. Nothing on earth is his equal-a creature without fear." Job 41:31-33

i love byron's "ocean". every ocean lover should read it. the poet talks of the insignificance of man vis a vis the ocean.
i think the disappearance from the syllabus of such classics creating awe for nature , has something to do with the indifference of today's generation to nature.
