INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY
My sincere thanks to all my friends who spared some time to visit SHEILA at LIFE- 4 HOURS AT A TIME listed under my BLOGS I FOLLOW and posted their support, words of encouragement and prayers. I am very grateful to you for this favor.
Last Sunday was celebrated all over the world as International Women’s Day. I am posting a short story of a great and famous lady who overcame terrible physical handicaps and won world acclaim to ensure that her name was etched in letters of gold in the annals of the history of mankind. Kindly read on:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The doctor is speaking to a young mother: ” I am very sorry but you must be brave. Prepare yourself for a severe shock.” With eyes full of tears and trembling lips the mother asks: ” Then my baby is not going to get better? She is going to -----“
The doctor anticipates the question. “ No, she is not going to die, but she will be both blind and deaf.” The anguished mother cries, “ Blind and deaf! Oh, my poor little baby, what will become of you?”
The doctor mutters to himself as he leaves the room: ”It’s a sad, sad case! One of the worst I have ever attended and the baby might as well be dead.”
The baby grew up to become known as Helen Keller, one of the most famous, useful and happy human beings. Depending upon the sense of touch and smell, she learned to speak , read and write. She did her college and authored a number of inspiring books.
In 1999, Keller was listed in Gallup's Most Widely Admired People of the 20th Century.
In 2003, Alabama honored its native daughter on its state quarter.
The Helen Keller Hospital in Sheffield, Alabama is dedicated to her.
There is a street named after Helen Keller in Getafe, Spain.

As always, wonderful photos and posts!
Love the tulpis and lotuses.
Can 't grow tulips here as its too hot for them.
Helen Keller is my hero, and if God had not been merciful to me i would have suffered the same disability as she did.
The tiled roofs are so unique to South India. Such a feeling to those houses. Our old style Bristish bungalows are very hard to maintain and are falling prey to demolition crews and builders.
The tourist looks very content, maybe she purchased some old coins and stamps. Wonder what the men in the truck are doing?
I love fashion jewellry.
I must visit Sheila too.
Hi Joseph!!
What a beautiful post, all the way around! Thanks for sharing about Helen Keller. She is literally one of my heroes. Your photos are beautiful and your post, as always, is heartwarming. And uplifting.
Many warm blessings to you and your loved ones, dear friend!
Hi Joseph,
Thanks for posting about Helen Keller, what a wonderful woman to be honored, not to mention her tutor.
It is hard to find excuses for ourselves in light of the tremendous obstacles she overcame.
So encouraging!
God bless,
Fred.
A good story for all of us to read about at a time when human life seems very cheap. Each and every human life is precious -- even if that person faces tremendous challenges in his or her life.
Thanks for keeping these kinds of reminders on your blog, Joseph. God's peace to you.
Mark
Hi sir,
Very apt post on women's day. Helen Keller's story is truly inspirational. Have you seen BLACK, the Hindi movie? It was based on Keller's life.
And the photos are awesome, as always :)
Have a wonderful day ahead :)
Helen Keller is one of my favorite biographies. And nice shots of your scene, too. When is International Men's Day??
The first time I was introduced to writings of and about Keller, I was very young & saw it as inspiring in a generic sort of way. Years later, reading the same materials, I was knocked over with her determination and spirit. I now see & feel all the positive aspects of what she did & what was done for her, but at times it provokes a distinct chill, the idea that so many others with those same issues are not guided & loved & appreciated the way she was. Perfect subject for Intl Women's Day, Joseph. ~Mary
Thank you for honoring Helen Keller in this way...I'm originally from Alabama, and have yet to visit Ivy Green, but it is someplace I very much want to see. I LOVE the purple (blue) lotus in the first picture! Thanks for sending me over to Bluebirdy's blog. She is going through a lot, and we all need to hold each other up in prayer. God bless you.
Hi Marie :)
Sheila is going through a very tough time. She needs all our support and prayers.
God bless you.
Helen Keller was amazing--she had so much spirit and determination!
What is generally not known is that she wished to get married and have children--she was about to elope with her sweetheart but her parents found out and put a stop to it--they felt it would be inappropriate. I feel so sad for her--so much accomplished--why could she not have succeeded at this also?
Thank you for sharing this post about Helen Keller--she is such an inspiration!
And Sheila's blog is very inspiring--everyone go visit it, it's fun as well as serious! Sheila is a brave, witty and wise person, as are you, Joseph.
Dear Joseph, thank you for this wonderful post on Women's Day!
Informative story, and, WONDERFUL flowers :)
Please come over to my place, there's an award waiting for you!
BTW, that blackbird is a boy :)
Hi Firebird :)
Welcome!
Many, many thanks for your kind words and encouragement.
Best wishes :)
Hi Maria :)
I am greatly honored by the award. Many, many thanks.
I am surprised that black bird is a boy. I always thought that only female of the species that builds the nest. Any way, time are changing :)
Joseph
I'm a little belated, but thanks for this wonderful bouquet in honor of the Women's Day;
When a man celebrates it, it's worth to notice. A kind attention.
I've watched the movie : "The Miracle Worker".
Joseph, I love that bluey-purple flower at the beginning of this post. Someone else said it was a lotus! I have never seen one vbefore! Are the tulips and other spring flowers from the flower shor, too?
Hi sir,
